Annual Novice Quartet Contest
On the third Tuesday of every January, the North Pennsmen hold our Novice Quartet Contest, an a cappella sing-off. Competition is open to all members of the chorus. This contest is a wonderful way to encourage members who are new to quartetting to try it!
Each quartet performs one song they choose. Then, they submit a name for their group, rehearse during the weeks preceding the contest, dress how they like and perform on stage!
The event is open to the public, free of charge, and is exciting to watch. There's even a panel of judges who are members of an experienced guest quartet from the Barbershop Harmony Society's Mid-Atlantic District. Following the contest, members of the audience are treated to a performance from the guest quartet, topping-off a perfect evening.
The top three quartets receive awards and bragging rights for the rest of the year.
Also, during a brief ceremony, the North Pennsmen's incoming Board of Directors is sworn-in. All who attend witness this display of dedication and passion for our organization, and meeti the team of men who, for another year, will grow a legacy of harmony, brotherhood and community outreach that began in 1961.
